Repair & Ramps

Rogue Valley Habitat for Humanity offers two repair programs to help low-income Jackson County homeowners stay safe and secure in their homes. Through our A Brush With Kindness program and Critical Repair Program, we provide everything from exterior painting and accessibility ramps to major structural repairs, with flexible repayment options based on household income.

Habitat for Humanity/Rogue Valley currently offers two repair programs. Acceptance into and/or availability of our repair programs is dependent on our current program funding and time available for projects outside of our primary mission of Habitat for Humanity home construction.

A Brush With Kindness (ABWK)

What is the ABWK program?

The A Brush With Kindness (ABWK) program helps low-income homeowners affected by age, disability, or family hardship maintain the exterior of their homes with services like painting, ramps, grab bars, and other minor repairs, up to $3,000 per household.

This is a hand-up program, not a handout. Repayment is determined by a sliding scale based on household income and housing expenses, and those who do qualify for repayment receive an interest-free financing option.

How can I qualify?

To qualify, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • You are unable to complete the repair on your own, physically or financially.

  • Your household income is below 80% of the current Area Median Income for Jackson County.

  • You are willing to contribute at least 10 hours of sweat equity for every $1,000 in estimated repairs (exceptions available for those with physical limitations).

  • You own and live in the home needing repair.

  • Your home is located within Jackson County.

Critical Home Repair Program (CRP)

The goal of our Critical Home Repair Program is to improve health and safety for residents living in substandard housing, preserve long-term housing stability, and help low-income homeowners remain in their homes.

Through access to repair funding, we support families facing urgent or unexpected challenges so they can avoid displacement and maintain safe, livable conditions.

To qualify for the CRP program you must have:

Need

Applicants must be

low- to moderate-income homeowners. Approval is based on the scope of necessary repairs and the homeowner’s inability to complete the work on their own, whether due to physical or financial limitations.

Ability to Pay

Applicants must have sufficient equity in their home to cover the cost of repairs. Project costs are financed through a zero-interest loan with repayment terms based on the total cost.

A lien will be placed on the property until the loan is fully repaid.

Additional Requirements

Applicants must also meet the following criteria:

  • Own and live in the home that needs repairs (rental properties are not eligible)

  • The home must not be a manufactured home, whether in a park or on private land

  • The home must be located in Jackson County

  • Household income must fall between 30% and 80% of the Area Median Income for Jackson County, based on household size (see chart below)

Required Documentation

If approved, applicants will be asked to provide the following:

  • Proof of homeowners insurance (declaration page)

  • Proof of income for all applicants (such as the last two years of tax returns, most recent 60 days of pay stubs, retirement or disability award letters, or self-employed profit and loss statements)

  • Most recent bank statements for all accounts (must include name, balance, and account number)

  • A valid driver’s license or ID for all applicants

  • Proof of honorable discharge for U.S. veterans (if applicable)

Rogue Valley Habitat for Humanity’s Home Repair Program offers zero-interest loans to help cover the cost of critical repairs.

Please review the application carefully before applying. All projects are approved on a case-by-case basis and depend on available funding. Additional requirements may apply.
