Do I need Construction experience to volunteer?

Accepted Answer

Nope! All of our projects are built primarily with inexperienced volunteers who have a willingness to learn. Our construction supervisors will teach you what you need to know.

Question 2

What should I bring?

- A sack lunch and snacks
 - A water bottle
 - Sunscreen
 Optional items include:
 - An OSHA-approved hard hat and safety glasses. All volunteers are required to wear a hard hat and safety glasses, but we provide them on site.
 - A tool belt and hand tools labeled with your name. Please do not bring your own power tools.

What should I wear?

- Sturdy, closed-toe shoes (hiking shoes or boots, leather boots or a solid pair of athletic shoes) are required for volunteers.
 - Wear clothing that can get dirty, ruined and/or paint-covered.
 - During the warmer months you can wear shorts or long pants, whatever you are most comfortable in.
 - During the winter, be sure to wear warm socks, layers, a hat and a warm coat that can get dirty.
 - We have work gloves available on site, but please bring a pair if you have them.

Is there an age requirement?

Yes. For new construction, home repair and renovation projects, all volunteers must be at least 18 years old.
 
Anyone between the age of 16-17 who would like to participate can volunteer at our ReStore after they have signed a parental waiver and medical release.

Question 5

Is there a time committment requirement?

Accepted Answer

No, please indicate on your registration when you will be at the construction site so we can ensure you get a safety training and a job assignment upon arrival.

Question 6

Can I bring a friend?

Accepted Answer

We are delighted you want to welcome others to the construction site but all volunteers must attend a Volunteer Orientation and register for the build day at least one day in advance.

What if there is inclement weather?

Construction will be cancelled for inclement weather.
 
If construction is cancelled for inclement weather or any other reason. We will contact you via phone and email 7 a.m. on the build day you are registered.

What if I can’t make it to a day that I signed up for?

Accepted Answer

As soon as you know that you will not be able to fulfill your commitment, please contact the volunteer Coordinator, Katrina Caudill at (541) 779-1983 or email habitatvc@roguevalleyhabitat.org. The more advance notice we are given, the more likely it is that we’ll be able to recruit additional volunteers.
