Habitat's Committees
| Building: | This committee plans, develops budgets,
and manages the construction projects. They work with the
families and architect to design house plans and secure all
building permits. A member solicits and schedules deliveries
of donated building materials for each job site. Another
member coordinates professional services that are
volunteered by contractors (plumbers, sheet rockers,
electricians, etc...). Others serve as supervisors on the
specific sites. |
| Apostles Build: | The Apostles Build Ministry Team is
responsible for establishing long-lasting relationships with
local churches, providing information and education about
Rogue Valley Habitat, and encouraging participation of
community members in the activities and projects of Habitat,
including volunteering and providing sustaining financial
support. |
| Family Selection: | This committee develops the application
process and seeks applicants through advertising and
relationships with churches, schools and social service
agencies. The committee is responsible for organizing and
conducting application orientations and assists the
applicants' complete required paperwork. The members then
conduct extensive interviews and site visits. The committee
recommends final applicants to the Board of Directors for
final approval of selection. |
| Family Partnership: | This committee works with the
selected partner families. At least one partner is assigned to each
family. They help guide each family in meeting their sweat equity
requirements. The partners help with any problems that may arise
during the time the family is waiting for a house. The committee
also hosts occasional homeowner education classes for the partner families (past and
current) to help them with budgeting, home repair, nutrition and
other problem areas. The committee is also responsible for planning
groundbreaking and dedication ceremonies, as well as the annual
family Christmas party. |
| Finance: | This committee reviews the
monthly financial activities before they are presented to the Board.
It also develops budgets, manages the cash transactions and
recommends investment strategy. All members must have accounting
and/or financial experience. |
| Newsletter/public Relations: | The Newsletter Committee is
responsible for developing recommendations for creating public
awareness of the programs and activities of the affiliate. The
committee develops and obtains printed and other materials to
establish and maintain media contacts, generate mailings,
newsletters, press releases and presentation material. |
| Special Events: | This committee takes
responsibility for special events, exhibits at fairs and booths to
represent Habitat for Humanity. Habitat does hold many annual events
that the committee would be responsible for knowing and planning
each event according to how the event is supposed to be. Committee
members can choose to plan and run only one event a year or help out
with only certain types of events. |
| Youth Programs: | This committee takes responsibility for
planning and running all of Habitat's youth activities. The
committee must provide advertising/awareness for the Youth
Programs to elementary schools, high schools, colleges and
youth clubs/groups throughout the valley. Involving youth at
an early age is an investment in the future of Habitat for
Humanity. The earlier individuals get involved with Habitat,
the more likely they will stay involved throughout their
lives. The programs consist of fundraising events, workshops
to teach building skills, awareness efforts for poverty
housing among Jackson County, and much more. |
