Planned Giving

Choosing How You Want To Give

Because of our Federal and State of Oregon tax laws, it is possible to reduce your tax burden, save money, and even increase your income by giving to a worthy cause. Some examples are listed on this page.

Cash and Bequests

Monetary gifts made payable to RVHFH during your lifetime usually qualify for charitable income tax deductions. Bequests from your will may reduce estate taxes on larger estates.

Property

Gifts of appreciated assets such as stocks, mutual funds, or real estate that have been owned for more than one year can provide substantial benefits to donors.

Beneficiary Designations

Retirement plans are often the most heavily taxed at death. You may designate RVHFH as a beneficiary of your retirement plan. Gifts of life insurance may also allow you to make a sizeable gift at a relatively low cost.

Charitable Gift Annuity

A gift annuity is an agreement between you and a non-profit organization. In return for transferring assets to the annuity, you receive annuity payments for a period of one or two lifetimes at an established percentage rate. You may also receive an income tax deduction. After the last lifetime, the remaining balance is transferred to RVHFH.

Charitable Remainder Trust

Transfer assets to this type of trust for income paid to you, your spouse or other individuals for a period of years or lifetimes. At the death of the last income beneficiary, the assets remaining in the trust are transferred to RVHFH.

Charitable Lead Trust

This trust pays Habitat income for a specific period of time. When the term is over, the remaining assets are transferred back to the donor or to a person or persons designated by the trust. The lead trust can be used to reduce or eliminate estate or gift taxes.
